Women’s Day is an excellent occasion to reflect on the beauty and greatness of motherhood. Without women society could not exist and there would be no future; without mothers humanity would have ended long ago.
The prospect of a better world expected for their children is entrusted to fathers, but above all to mothers. At all levels, the role of women in the service of humanity is formidable.
A dear friend, mother, lawyer and university professor wrote to me: “A lot of respect and great cultural and educational attention is needed towards women and the complexity and criticality of their condition. The recognition of all this and the attention to sharing and the humble accompaniment that must follow, would be the true recognition of the stature of women and their formidable role in humanity. And her strength. I have always thought that war can only be masculine because if men knew how long and turbulent the path to give life is, they would never dream of destroying it”. Words that today are more current, intense and true.
I join this reflection with what Franco Zeffirelli said, thinking about the greatness of women: “The privilege of carrying life is a privilege that men do not have: we are inferior to women in this. The miracle of feeling a new life sprout in your womb, seeing it blossom and see it sprout, makes you women stronger.”
“Pregnancy, essential for man to be born and therefore for society to exist and have a future, is characterized by three signs that imprint the seal of love on human life. First of all, pregnancy always implies a modification of the female body, it is usually accompanied by discomfort and ends with labor pains. The woman accepts all this with an instinctive courage that cannot be expected from a man. Secondly, the growth of the child in the mother’s womb (“duality in unity”) can be interpreted as a prolonged embrace over many months. Hugging is a sign of love. The third characteristic refers to the relationship of care for the other that pregnancy establishes in a very special way between mother and child: it could be said that the “genius of the relationship”, often attributed to women, finds its source in this primordial model. of relationship that he establishes with the natural hospitality of the son under the mother’s heart.
Every authentic relationship of care (think of the sick, the handicapped, the elderly) refers to that gratuitous acceptance and that gift of self that appeals to the woman when the child who lives in her is announced to her.
The reflection on maternity and pregnancy indicates the capacity of all women to stamp the sign of love on humanity as the goal of the liberation movement, which in turn presupposes the recognition of the conceived child as the wonder of wonders, the masterpiece of creation in progress, an arrow of hope shot into the future, one of us.
Hence the urgency of a new recognizable feminine presence that makes the woman speak and listen in the name of her realized or desired maternity. As in the painting by Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, called “Quarto Stato”, where – at the head of the multitude of men on the way to the conquest of equality, dignity, rights (the painting refers to the workers’ revolution) – There is a woman who carries a child in her arms. In the courage to welcome children from the womb is “the stature of women and her formidable role in humanity.”
However, women must be able to count on the solidarity of the whole of society. “From heart to heart” is also this.
What can we do? It would be nice if most women subscribe to a very simple statement and that is that the conceived is a human being, one of us. We can think of subscriptions to a collective document or personal statements that will be presented at the right time to politicians. Also, and in addition to a collective document or individual statements by women, the voice of mothers who can testify that their children were human beings from conception and have continued to be is powerful.
Women, the moment they realize they are pregnant, it would be nice if they testified publicly with a statement that they have a human being in their body, one of us. Therefore, a call must be made to women, mothers and pregnant women to testify that the conceived is a human being. Such an appeal can be directed at the national level to the Parties and civil society organizations accompanied by a group of women present throughout the national level in the respective countries to reestablish the truth that what was conceived by all women who thus also reveal the truth about themselves and their supremacy. It is crucial to ensure the future of society and history.
It would be an extraordinary opportunity to awaken people to life. If we manage to demonstrate that the majority of women are in favor of the right to life of children on the way to childbirth, the “conspiracy against life” will be definitively defeated. Best wishes to all women!
