The “Heroes for Life” exhibition, showcased during the World Youth Day in Lisbon from August 1st to 4th, garnered immense success, captivating over 2000 young participants from across the globe.
Curated by the One of Us Federation, this four-day pro-life exhibition was the sole event of its kind during World Youth Day, shining a spotlight on seven exceptional historical European figures dedicated to defending human life: Jérôme Lejeune, Jean-Paul II, Gianna Beretta Molla, Mother Teresa, King Baudouin, Carlo Casini, and Sophie Scholl. Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding human dignity, especially that of the most vulnerable, including embryos, deeply inspired the attending youth.
The exhibition was complemented by two screenings of the documentary film on Jérôme Lejeune, “To the Least of Those My Brothers and Sisters ,” which drew an audience of over 500 international spectators.
“The Heroes for Life exhibition is a natural response for One of Us to the global gathering of young people because our organization works closely with young people, and we know that the new generations are the most mobilized in defense of life and justice” explains Pablo Siegrist, vice president of One of Us.
On this 4th day of World Youth Day, it’s also beautiful to remember Carlo Casini, the founder of One of Us and former president of the Italian Pro-Life Movement (MpV), who passed away in March 2020. He was one of the 7 heroes featured in the exhibition for young people. In 2017, he wrote this message while battling illness: “I cannot embrace you personally, but my wish is… that you become a benefit to the society of tomorrow, that you experience the joy of being courageous witnesses to the value of life.”
