The European Parliament shows an unprecedented commitment to motherhood: \u201cReal choice means real support.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At an event organized by One of Us, Members of the European Parliament from several countries called for a European policy that protects genuine freedom of choice by offering concrete alternatives to pregnant women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Parliament hosted on Wednesday the conference \u201cReal Choice Means Real Support,\u201d<\/em> organized by the One of Us federation in collaboration with Members of the European Parliament from several countries \u2014 including Slovenia, Italy, Malta, Spain, Slovakia, France, and Croatia \u2014 who emphasized the urgency of promoting active policies to support motherhood and protect human life from its very beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event combined personal testimonies with institutional contributions from Members of the European Parliament belonging to the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group and the European People\u2019s Party (EPP). It also included the participation of national deputies from Slovenia and numerous civil society organizations from across the EU, with the aim of giving a voice to women who have faced pregnancy in difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The speakers denounced that, all too often, social and economic pressures push women toward abortion due to a lack of real support, and they called for a European policy that safeguards genuine freedom of choice by offering concrete and dignified alternatives. Among them, the intervention of Spanish pro-life feminist activist Leire Navaridas stood out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El manifiesto de One of Us defiende que \u00abla elecci\u00f3n real exige apoyo real\u00bb: que una sociedad verdaderamente justa no es aquella que facilita el aborto<\/strong>, sino la que acompa\u00f1a, sostiene y protege a las madres. La federaci\u00f3n recuerda que las pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas europeas deben centrarse en la promoci\u00f3n de la maternidad<\/strong>, la conciliaci\u00f3n laboral<\/strong>, la ayuda a familias vulnerables y el refuerzo de redes de apoyo emocional y social, para que ninguna mujer se vea forzada a elegir entre su hijo y su estabilidad vital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event represented a major effort \u2014 and a success \u2014 by the European pro-life movement to move beyond mere testimony and position itself on the EU political agenda. The presence of MEPs from different countries demonstrates that the defense of life and motherhood can form a common discourse within the Union, beyond national ideological frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenge remains to translate this visibility into concrete legislative actions, as European competences in health and family matters largely depend on Member States, except for the protection of families, which is enshrined in Article 33 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The central message of the event revolved around finding common approaches from different perspectives, emphasizing that supporting life does not mean imposing beliefs, but rather rebuilding a culture of accompaniment: European institutions need to view motherhood not as a problem, but as a social good that deserves support. The interventions of the MEPs and the personal testimonies agreed that freedom is only genuine when the economic, cultural, social, and political pressures that currently influence many women\u2019s decisions are removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To close the event, the attending MEPs signed a joint declaration with One of Us, committing to protect motherhood and create the conditions necessary so that women\u2019s choices are not shaped by social, economic, political, or cultural pressures. The text emphasizes that all pregnant women should be able to choose to give birth to the human life they are carrying, and that no woman should feel alone: each should have access to real, concrete support tailored to her personal circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gesture would gain new momentum if the MEPs gathered today were to officially present it to the European Parliament\u2019s Bureau as an expression of these representatives\u2019 commitment to a more humane, supportive Europe that respects the dignity of all life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the event alone does not guarantee a shift in European policy, it is significant as a symbol that pro-life associations are not abandoning the effort to engage in the European public sphere. They aim to insert themselves into the institutional agenda and to shape an alternative narrative to the unfortunate pro-abortion initiative \u201cmy voice, my choice,\u201d<\/em> which is pressuring the Commission to guarantee abortion as a fundamental right across the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Us has sought to highlight this alternative initiative focused on genuine free motherhood and support for all mothers in the EU. For its impact to go beyond a group photo, it will be crucial that the commitments made today are translated into concrete policies, follow-ups, and proposals in the European Parliament\u2019s committees and plenary sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En un acto organizado por One of Us, eurodiputados de varios pa\u00edses reclamaron una pol\u00edtica europea que ampare la libertad aut\u00e9ntica de decidir, ofreciendo alternativas concretas a las mujeres embarazadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Parlamento Europeo ha acogido este mi\u00e9rcoles la conferencia \u00abReal Choice Means Real Support\u00bb (La elecci\u00f3n real exige apoyo real), organizada por la federaci\u00f3n One of Us con la colaboraci\u00f3n de eurodiputados de varios pa\u00edses, entre ellos Eslovenia, Italia, Malta, Espa\u00f1a, Eslovaquia, Francia y Croacia, que subrayaron la urgencia de promover pol\u00edticas activas de apoyo a la maternidad y de protecci\u00f3n de la vida humana desde su inicio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El encuentro combin\u00f3 testimonios personales con intervenciones institucionales de eurodiputados pertenecientes al grupo de Conservadores y Reformistas Europeos (ECR) y del Partido Popular Europeo (EPP) adem\u00e1s de contar con la participaci\u00f3n en el p\u00fablico de diputados nacionales de Eslovenia y de multitud de agrupaciones de la sociedad civil de toda la UE, con el objetivo de dar voz a las mujeres que han afrontado embarazos en situaciones adversas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Las ponentes denunciaron que, en demasiadas ocasiones, el entorno social y econ\u00f3mico empuja a las mujeres hacia el aborto por falta de apoyo real, y reclamaron una pol\u00edtica europea que ampare la libertad aut\u00e9ntica de decidir, ofreciendo alternativas concretas y dignas. Entre ellas ha destacado la intervenci\u00f3n de la activista feminista pro-vida espa\u00f1ola Leire Navaridas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El evento ha supuesto un enorme esfuerzo (y \u00e9xito) del movimiento pro-vida europeo por trascender lo testimonial e insertarse en la agenda pol\u00edtica comunitaria. La presencia de eurodiputados de distintos pa\u00edses demuestra que la defensa de la vida y la maternidad puede articular un discurso com\u00fan en el seno de la Uni\u00f3n, m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los marcos ideol\u00f3gicos nacionales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El desaf\u00edo sigue siendo convertir esta visibilidad en acciones legislativas concretas, ya que los marcos competenciales europeos en materia de salud y familia dependen en gran medida de los Estados miembros, salvo en la protecci\u00f3n a las familias, incluida en el art\u00edculo 33 de la Carta de los Derechos Fundamentales de la UE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El mensaje central del encuentro ha girado en torno a enfoques comunes desde diferentes perspectivas, destacando que apoyar la vida no significa imponer creencias, sino reconstruir una cultura del acompa\u00f1amiento: que es necesario que las instituciones europeas asuman la maternidad no como un problema, sino como un bien social que merece respaldo. Las intervenciones de los eurodiputados y los testimonios personales coincidieron en que la libertad solo es real cuando se eliminan las presiones \u2013econ\u00f3micas, culturales, sociales o pol\u00edticas\u2013 que hoy condicionan las decisiones de muchas mujeres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Como cierre del encuentro, los eurodiputados presentes firmaron junto a One of Us una declaraci\u00f3n com\u00fan en la que se comprometen a proteger la maternidad y crear las condiciones necesarias para que la elecci\u00f3n de las mujeres no est\u00e9 condicionada por presiones sociales, econ\u00f3micas, pol\u00edticas o culturales. El texto subraya que todas las mujeres embarazadas deben poder elegir dar a luz a la vida humana que est\u00e1n gestando, y que ninguna deber\u00eda sentirse sola: cada una debe contar con ayuda real, concreta y adaptada a sus circunstancias personales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El gesto cobrar\u00eda nuevo impulso si los eurodiputados hoy reunidos lo presentasen oficialmente a la Mesa del Parlamento Europeo como expresi\u00f3n del compromiso de estos representantes con una Europa m\u00e1s humana, solidaria y respetuosa con la dignidad de toda vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque el evento no garantiza por s\u00ed solo un vuelco en la pol\u00edtica europea, es significativo como s\u00edmbolo de que las asociaciones pro-vida no renuncian a disputar el espacio p\u00fablico europeo, que buscan insertarse en la agenda institucional y desean perfilar una narrativa alternativa a la desgraciada iniciativa pro-aborto \u00abmy voice, my choice\u00bb que est\u00e1 presionando a la Comisi\u00f3n para que garantice el aborto como derecho fundamental en toda la UE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Us ha querido destacar esta otra iniciativa alternativa centrada en la maternidad libre de verdad y en el acompa\u00f1amiento a todas las madres en la UE.
