Fighting for Freedom of Citizens and Member States in the EU

The European Commission prepares to respond on the 25th of February 2026 to the “My Voice, My Choice” (MVMC) European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI), which is calling for the Commission to fund abortion tourism within the EU. This ECI contributes to shaping a Europe that fails to protect women from the trauma of abortion, disregards unborn babies, and encroaches upon the sovereign competence of Member States in matters relating to abortion.

To mobilize against it, the European Federation ONE OF US launches www.NoAbortionTourism.eu, a pan-European campaign available in all the EU languages.

The platform enables citizens across the European Union to contact key members of the European Commission with a single click and urge them to respect the EU Treaties, the freedom of Member States and the principle of subsidiarity.

The campaign runs from 11 to 25 February 2026, in the decisive days before the Commission announces its formal position.

Abortion Is a National Competence

On 17 December 2025, the European Parliament adopted a resolution encouraging the Commission to consider establishing an EU-funded financial mechanism to finance abortion tourism across the Union. It would extend EU action into an area that clearly falls within the competence of Member States and was never transferred to the European Union under the treaties.

Abortion legislation is linked to constitutional identity, ethical traditions, and democratic choices made at national level. The EU has no mandate to harmonise or indirectly override those choices through financial instruments.

Respecting subsidiarity is not a political option — it is a legal expression of the freedom of the Member States, and of finally the freedom of each European citizen. EU institutions have no democratic authority to intrude and go against it. Be careful with institutional abuses of authority disguised in democratic words!” exclaimed Dr. Ségolène du Closel, CEO of ONE OF US.

The European Union cannot use its budget to circumvent national laws on issues that remain under Member States’ authority. If the Treaties mean anything, they must be upheld precisely when questions are controversial.

A Clear Democratic Message

The mechanism of European Citizens’ Initiative cannot create new EU competences nor oblige the Commission to legislate. The Commission is required to respond — not to expand its powers.

Nearly two million citizens supported the ONE OF US’ European initiative in 2013, demonstrating that there is no European consensus in favour of EU involvement in abortion policy. Democracy does not end with one petition.

A Pan-European Mobilisation

Through NoAbortionTourism.eu, citizens can:

●       Select their country and language

●       Send an editable message to their national Commissioner

●   Contact the President of the Commission and relevant Commissioners

The website is available in all Member State languages.

The goal is simple: to ensure that Commissioners hear directly from citizens before the 25th of  February and to remind them that abortion policy remains a national responsibility under the EU legal order.

This is a decisive moment,” Ségolène du Closel concluded.
