Next Sunday, 2nd of April at 14h00, the March for Life 2023 will be held in Brussels. The organizers invite all of us to join the March at Place Poelaert in Brussels. The recent recommendations of the «scientific» committee on abortion in Belgium lead us to redouble our efforts to defend the real rights to life.
Indeed, a proposal to include a right to abortion in our constitution has already been tabled on the agenda of the constitutional legislator. Moreover, in France, the political situation is the same. Let’s take to the streets together to have people recognize that a right to abortion does not exist and to ask that our attention be focused on clear and concrete means that place real solutions for the woman and her unborn child at the center.
Not only is the unborn life under pressure, but the lives of our elderly and sick people are also despised all the more. However, the European Court of Human Rights condemned Belgium in 2022 for a violation of the right to life due to ineffective ex-post control of euthanasia cases. We demand that the Belgian parliament finally reform the euthanasia assessment commission, which the March for Life has been demanding for years, and that it refrain from further extensions of the law, e.g. euthanasia for people with dementia.
A few years ago, surrogacy was still condemned by the European Parliament, but recently attempts have been made to impose surrogacy on all Member States of the European Union by obliging each country to recognize parentage by GPA established in another Member State (where permitted by law). The European Commission is trying to extend its own powers and we therefore ask the Commission to refrain from doing so, and we ask the Belgian Parliament, on the contrary, to make it clear that any surrogacy is a violation of the rights of the child and of the principles the unavailability and non-commercialization of the human body.
