The Bioethics Observatory of the Catholic University of Valencia has organized, on July 14, 2022, within the framework of the Summer Courses, the Interuniversity Congress «Autonomy and freedom: Bioethical limits» that aims to carry out a bioethical analysis of conflicts derived from the application of the principle of patient autonomy in today’s society.
Ethical conflicts such as abortion, euthanasia, surrogacy, legal consumption of drugs of abuse, aesthetic medicine, organ trafficking, death caused by organ donation or gender transition processes, promoted by positions that They prioritize respect for the autonomy of patients, generating a multitude of dilemmatic situations where the beneficence of the interventions is questioned, as well as the degree of freedom of people who choose without sufficient knowledge of the consequences of their choice or their simple ability to make it .
