One hundred experts from 75 countries have signed a declaration demanding the abolition of surrogate motherhood (in the declaration the term “surrogate pregnancy” is used) because it offends human dignity and commodifies women and children.
On March 3, a conference took place in Casablanca to launch the declaration. The organizers chose Morocco because it completely prohibits surrogacy.

Their recommendations for legislators are as follows:
– Total ban on surrogacy
– A declaration of nullity of surrogacy contracts
– Prosecution of intermediaries (brokers) in surrogacy
– Prosecution of the participants in the surrogacy process
– A global treaty on surrogacy.
The authors of the declaration stress that they are asking for the total abolition of surrogacy, not the creation of a framework in which it can be regulated.
